Identification: 16-42 in; Slender black or brown snakes with a tan to orange stripe down the back and a pale stripe on each side; pale parietal spot on top of head; belly whitish; scales keeled.
Habits: Western ribbon snakes occur in grassland and woodland habitats, often near a source of water. Areas with ample sunlight are preferred.
Distribution: Throughout Louisiana except Washington and northern St. Tammany parishes.
